There is a Psalm that has helped me down through the years when I need a reminder of God’s goodness. Today it may be the words that you need to hear. God is our refuge and strength!

Two things that I need according to the Psalmist are provided for me in God. He is a refuge and strength. A refuge is a place of shelter, protection, or safety. It is a place that provides an area of recourse for aid, relief, or escape. The Psalmist reminds us that He is that for each and every one. God cares about you and all of us and cares enough to give us shelter and His strength. Again, two things that are needed, a place of safety, and His power. Because of His refuge and strength, we do not need to fear when the earth is unstable and even secure and strong mountains give way, God will keep us steady. God is within His Holy City, and we are glad. In His presence, there is gladness and joy.

I am reminded by the Psalmist that I am to be still and know that He is God! The noisy world may make us doubt, but if we will quiet our minds and listen and reflect, He is God, and He still speaks! I need to remember that He is God, not my circumstances, nor my problems, nor my pain. He is God, always has been and always will be, and in that truth, I can rest. He is God and out of the stillness springs forth bold confidence that nothing can shake. Psalm 46 ends much as it started, He is God, and He is with us and that my friend makes all the difference!

Whatever you are going through today, find a quiet place and rest in Him. Listen to the still small voice and know that He cares about you. He loves you and will be your refuge from the storms of life. Regardless of what happens, He is God, and He cares about you.

Psalm 46[a

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth.[bA song.

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
