This past Saturday was a cold day, but I had my heart warmed by attending the children’s Bible Quiz in Plainfield Indiana.  The temperature was below zero overnight.  58 children and their families and coaches made it across the tundra.  As cold as it was outside it was both warm and heartwarming inside the building where the meet took place.  There is nothing like watching a Bible Quiz to bring the warmth of encouragement.  Though I went to college and Seminary to prepare for pastoral ministry the books of the Bible I know best today are the ones I studied for Bible Quizzing. in Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

If you study and memorize and meditate on the Word, it will make a difference. Spending the morning at the Bible Quiz teams from our district reminded me that spending time in and with the Bible is something that will stick with you the rest of your life.  It was amazing to hear the children stand and from memory recite various verses and passages of Scripture.  All that goes into Bible Quizzing does not happen by accident.  Parents and volunteers at church work with the children.  Though there is a competition phase to all of this, the most significant by-product is the memorization of the Bible.  As with David, I could say I was once young and am now older…and the verses I learned as a child come back to me most readily.   To those who work with Bible Quizzing you are making a big difference not only in the lives of the children you are leading but you are making a difference in the world.  It was well worth the effort to come out on a cold morning and seeing so many children who have immersed themselves in the Bible.  I could think of no better way to spend a freezing day than to be in the presence of so many who love the Word of God

2 Thoughts to “A Day with Bible Quizzers”

  1. All of my kids were quizzers! So thankful for God’s Word stored in their hearts now that they are adults.

Gwen and I attended and we were so proud of all the kids. They truly are following David’s Example; “Your WORD have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you – (O Lord).”
